Vancouver Canucks Tickets for Sale
The Vancouver Canucks had Stanley Cup expectations going into the 2012/2013 Season. They won the Northwest Division title as expected, but were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the San Jose Sharks, prompting management to fire Head Coach Alain Vigneault and his assistants, Rick Bowness, and Newell Brown.
The team named John Tortorella, who won the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and was recently fired by the New York Rangers as their new Head Coach.
Part of the problem the Canucks had last season was, the coaches in ability to decide who was going to be the team's full time goalie. Robert Luongo, and Cory Schnieder split time in goal throughout the season and playoffs, which was a distraction to the team.
This offseason, the team traded Schnieder to the New Jersey Devils for the 9th overall pick in the NHL Draft, a surprising move since most people thought they were going to trade Luongo, who was benched in favor of Schneider during the season.
The Canucks used the draft pick from the Schnieder trade to select Bo Horvat, and their 24th pick on Hunter Shinkaruk, both draft picks are considered prospects and are not expected to see any playing time unless one of the veterans on the team get hurt.
The Canucks managed to sign free agent Brad Richardson from the Los Angeles Kings, and resigned defenseman Chris Tanev. They will also try to lock up Henrik and Daniel Sedin who are in the final years of their contracts, before they hit the free agency market.
Because there are a few aging players that make up the core of the team, most of them are signed to long term contracts, the team's window of opportunity to raise the Stanley Cup is closing, and the Canucks are hoping that their new Head Coach will be able to lead them back to the promised land this season.
