The Anaheim Ducks are going to enter the 2012-2013 NHL season with a revamped roster meant to improve upon an offense and defense finishing in the bottom half of the league. The front office did so by adding size to the blue line and by letting veterans go and trusting the youth within the organization to give the offense some zest. Sheldon Souray and Bryan Allen are both 6-foot-4 are taller and around 220 pounds. They are going to add some depth to the line and hopefully result in a drastic improvement in the number of penalty kills. Cam Fowler and Francois Beauchemin are the starting defensemen. Fowler is the guy in transit and Beauchemin is going to be staying at home.

Goalie Jonas Hiller was once a Top-10 player in the net. Hiller’s status dropped after last season, but he will regain that vaunted status with a strong 2012-2013. At least, he will if Viktor Fasth is able to give him some relief, perhaps as many as 20 games.

The offense is going to be driven by the first line of Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzel, and Corey Perry. Their production has dropped over the last two seasons. Add to this trouble the fact Teemu Selanne is over 40 and still putting up numbers like a guy in his early 30s. Kyle Palmieri, Devante Smith-Pelly, and Emerson Etem will be picking up the scoring after these standard four. Really, the top-six has yet to be carved out, so it is likely two of these young wings will be on the second line by the end of the season.

The entire season depends on this growth spurt on the blue line and the development of the young wings. If all this goes well and the goalie is able to return to his former status then Duck tickets will be a glorious experience and the entire season worth making into a movie…hold on déjà vu!
