The San Diego Chargers fans at Qualcomm Stadium have to be happy that this season the Chargers did not wait until the last few weeks of the schedule to turn up their game and compete for first place in the AFC West. San Diego is 6-3 and tied with the Broncos, quietly going on a four-game winning streak as the Broncos have lost three straight. The team is doing this with an explosive offense, as per usual. The Chargers are averaging 26.3 points a game, good for sixth best in the NFL. The offense is far from balanced though. The passing game is carrying the load as LaDainian Tomlinson continues to battle injuries and Darren Sproles tries to pick some of the slack. Meanwhile quarterback Philip Rivers has had another great season, throwing 16 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions through 9 games. He is averaging 275 yards a game and has a QB rating of 97.9. His favorite targets are wide receiver Vincent Jackson and tight end Antonio Gates. Chris Chambers lost his spot as second receiver and eventually his spot on the roster. Now, Rivers will need to help Malcom Flyod develop to give the Chargers a healthy two receiver option. The San Diego defense was supposed to return to its form two years ago, but has struggled, allowing 22.4 points a game (20th in the NFL). The Chargers are pretty good against the pass, but struggle to stop the run. The defense will need to take the next step if they hope to make the playoffs and compete with the Colts and Patriots. Of course, before even talking about the playoffs, the Chargers need to win enough games to qualify. The schedule has a couple division games, including a big one for the division lead with the Broncos in Week 11. Then San Diego plays five opponents of varying difficulty. The Browns and Redskins should be easy wins, but the Bengals are proving to be one of the best teams in the 2009 season. The Titans and Cowboys have been all over the map, so who knows if the good, bad, or ugly will show up in those weeks. Obviously, this means that remaining three games at Qualcomm Stadium will be huge. Luckily we here at OnlineSeats have a terrific selection of San Diego Chargers tickets for great seats for all those contests.
