Background - Oakland Raiders
Season tickets would be rewarded with another Super Bowl victory in 1980 and 1983. The team learned its winning ways from legendary coach and color commentator John Madden. The team also won with incredible talents like Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen in the 1980s
Things would not stay so pleasant for the Raiders or their fans. Bad management moves, disgruntled players, and early retirements crippled the franchise in the middle of the 1990s. It was another coaching genius led them out of the dark. John Gruden built a Raider team that took three straight AFC West division titles from 2000-2002. Unfortunately the coach was on the other side of the field in 2002 when the Raiders lost to the Bucs who had Gruden at the helm.

2009 Season Preview
|
 Oakland Raiders coach was given a terrible roster and one and a half seasons before owner Al Davis fired him and publicly humiliated him. Tom Cable took over, but the season was still lost. The Raiders finished 5-11 and simply could not score.
The 2009 season will only be different if the Raiders find somebody to throw the ball. JaMarcus Russell has been given the starting role at quarterback, but he must go deeper more often to establish some kind of balance. The running backs, Justin Fargas, Darren McFadden, and Michael Bush, are actually quite good.
It is the reverse with the defense. The secondary has some skill and could be a very good unit, but the front seven gave up 159.7 yards a game on the ground. So the offseason to-do list has to include giving Russell somebody to throw to, completely rehabbing the defensve line and linebackers, and getting the team to believe that the coach will be there for a few years.
