Tennessee Titans 2009 Playoffs

The Tennessee Titans have a longer history than their past decade in Tennessee. Before moving east the club was playing under the name the Oilers in the city of Houston. Most of the postseason history and the playoff tickets take place in Texas for the franchise. In fact its two championship seasons take place in Houston over four decades ago before the Super Bowl, when the Oilers were part of the AFL. The team won the first two AFL titles the league every had and has come up empty ever since.
The most recent run at a championship came in 1999. The team was in its third season in Tennessee and its first as the Titans. Steve McNair was the mobile leader of the offense, as a threat to pass the ball to Kevin Dyson and Frank Wycheck. Eddie George was an unstoppable back who could power through an arm tackle and outrun a linebacker. The defense was superb that 13-3 season. The Titans began by taking their playoff tickets to the Bills and just getting by 22-16. The team just got by the next week against the Colts 19-16 and went on as the underdog to play the Jaguars.
Tennessee Titans Background
The Titans had played the Jaguars in the regular season twice on the division schedule and came away winners both times. That trend continued in the AFC Championship game. The Super Bowl was billed as a match up between the Titans defense and the Rams offense. In one of the greatest Super Bowls ever played the Titans finished one yard from victory, losing 23-16 on the with Dyson’s arm stretched out for the last play of the game. Titans playoff tickets have not been as exciting since.
This season the Titans have mobile quarterback in Vince Young. It is his traditional quarterback limitations, his accuracy not his arm, that can make or break this season. If Young is able to develop his passing ability the Titans offense can finally put up enough points to make the superb effort by the defense end in tickets to the playoffs of the Titans. Justin Gage and Justin McCareins will not fill many seats at LP Field with their ability. Neither will LenDale White out of the backfield. The season will really in the hands of the quarterback. If Young is not able to perform and Kerry Collins has to take over his veteran leadership will have to be impressive to get the ball moving downfield.
