The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most successful franchises in the NFL since the inception of the Super Bowl in 1966. The team has been able to win five Super Bowls and conference championships and 17 division titles. Its glorious postseason history ended in 2002, the last time the 49ers went to the postseason. After an incredible some from behind victory, the 49ers beat the Giants, but playoff tickets to the divisional round saw the Bucs end that year’s Super Bowl dream. That dream has been around since Joe Montana, Steve Young, and even Jeff Garcia manned the quarterback position and played tremendously.
Since that quarterback play has ended after Jeff Garcia left in 2004. Since the quarterback situation has been up in the air. Alex Smith has been given every opportunity to succeed with the starting job, but also every chance to fail with a weak offensive line and lack of talented receivers. The team has failed to finish above .500 and the thought of playoff tickets have been nothing more than pipe dreams by the fans.

This season that may all change at Bill Walsh Field at Monster Park. J.T. Sullivan is a veteran back up quarterback who has been given the chance to start after Smith has failed to produce enough wins over the last three seasons and Frank Gore has been a superb running back over the last two seasons. Bryant Johnson and Isaac Bruce may not inspire much confidence, but Vernon Davis one of the best receiving tight ends in the league. The questions continue from there. Is the offensive line good enough, is the defense going to stop anybody? The team still has a shot at playoff tickets with a division title in the NFC West because just about every team has major questions and all the winner may need is a little team chemistry.
