Miami Dolphins 2009 Playoffs

The Miami Dolphins have been struggling every since the Jay Fiedler’s last year in 2004. The quarterback was able to take over for Dan Marino after he retired in 1999. Miami was able to bring Dolphins playoff tickets to Dolphin Stadium via a AFC East division title in 2000 and a wild card spot the next season. The appearances were surprising after experts were waiting for the club to take a nose dive once the Hall of Fame quarterback retired and a backup quarterback from the Jacksonville Jaguars took over. The key was the defense. Jason Taylor and Trace Armstrong were double-digit sack threats and Sam Madison, Brian Walker, Brock Marion, and Patrick Surtain able to pick off any quarterback. Add in the play of Zach Thomas and the Dolphins were a surprising force to contend with. That team went to the divisional playoff round before being decimated by the Raiders in 2000 and Miami left after the first round in 2001. Despite good records in 2001 and 2002, the Dolphins did not make the playoffs before the wheels fell off and the long coming dive finally took hold over the city.
The Miami Dolphins suffered a 2007 season in which the defense and the offense limped futilely on the field, finishing 1-15. The 2008 team can not be nearly as bad as that team. With a new quarterback in Chad Pennington picked up late in the preseason once Brett Favre was traded to the Jets the coaching staff is hoping the veteran player just needs a place to start over a last few seasons of struggle in New York. Ricky Williams return to the Dolphins after his drug suspension ended makes a crowded backfield with Ronnie Brown. That backfield is about all the offense has though. The receivers leave a lot to be desired for the offensive coordinator and Pennington. Ted Ginn Jr. is still developing as a receiver and Derek Hagan is a no name at the number two slot. Dolphins playoff tickets may be a long shot though, even with the sudden chaos in the AFC East.
Miami Dolphins Background
The defense is lacking after Jason Taylor left to avoid a potential rebuilding season and Zach Thomas departed for Dallas. Will Allen is the leader of the secondary while aging veterans Joey Porter, Vonnie Holliday, and others picking up the slack and adding some bite back to the defense. Before Week 1 the Dolphins were no where in the playoff picture, but after the injury to Tom Brady the AFC East is anybodies. The Jets may be the favorites and the Bills may have the potential to rise to the top, but the Dolphins now have a roster full of veterans who have a history of success and could inspire a surprising season that could end in playoff tickets for the fans.
