The Kansas City Chiefs have gone down in history as the first team to lose a Super Bowl. That first game that pitted the AFL and the NFL champions ended in a 35-10 loss to Bart Star and the Packers. The Chiefs would return to the Super Bowl in 1969 with a great quarterback of their own. Len Dawson won the Super Bowl MVP and the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV 23-7 overt eh Minnesota Vikings. Chiefs playoff tickets would become a rarity for years. The 1990s would become a new golden era for the franchise. Marty Schottenheimer was the coach of a talented all around football team. Linebacker Derrick Thomas, defensive end Neil Smith, and cornerback Dale Carter were the corner stones of the defense and Marcus Allen and Joe Montana helped Kansas City Chiefs make Arrowhead Stadium an exciting place to be every season. The team won thee AFC West titles that decade and went to the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills in 1993.
In recent years the Kansas City Chiefs have returned to their struggling ways. The team made the playoffs in 2003 and 2006 with a powerful offense devised by Dick Vermeil Trent Green became the latest quarterback to fall in love with a Vermeil offense and Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson became the feature backs. Each had seasons that would challenge NFL records and help lead to playoff tickets. The switch to Herman Edwards last season saw a change from an offensive oriented force to a defensive one and ended on several low notes for the Kansas City Chiefs.

This season the Kansas City Chiefs must rely on a good defense to try and last long enough for the offense to find its way over the long schedule. If the defense falls to exhaustion before that happens, the chance for Chiefs playoff tickets will be slim. Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard proved themselves as safeties last season. Brandon Flowers is a talented rookie corner who will take his lumps at the beginning of the season. Derrick Johnson and Donnie Edwards are the experience linebackers and Tamba Hali and Glenn Dorsey are the anchors on the line. The offense needs to settle on a quarterback and let him develop. Larry Johnson is healthy this season and will have to take a heavy carry load to keep the ball moving. Dwayne Bowe really emerged last season and he and Tony Gonzalez could be tow great targets if the quarterback is up to the job.
