 The New England Patriots are back where they belong on top of the AFC East with a 6-2 record and a two game lead on the second place Jets. The football team started out a little shaky, but with Brady getting back to his old form the Pats have become too much for teams to handle. Tom Brady has thrown for 300 plus yards in the last three games and each of those games have been resounding victories. Suddenly the offense is rolling again, currently in third in scoring offense at 28.1 points per game. The team can throws the ball and run the football well enough to decimate just about any defense. Brady has 16 touchdown passes but is still working on getting back to his old self. He has not established that connection with receiver Randy Moss that terrified secondaries just two seasons ago. Still, he has been effective enough to throw for nearly 300 yards per game. The running game is a hodgepodge collection running backs. Laurence Maroney, Fred Taylor, Kevin Faulk, and Sammy Morris all have shared the carries. That collective of running backs is averaging a very commendable 4.1 yards per carry for the New England Patriots. The Patriots defense warrants equal accolades, holding opponents to14.4 points per game (2nd in the NFL). They give up quite a few yards on the ground (112.4) but are able to contain the pass (179.4 yards per game) and force turnovers (15 takeaways). New England is simply a balanced team that is only getting better as the 2009 season continues. The only potential downside for the second half of the schedule is that the Patriots have just three home games at Gillette Stadium left. They have to go on the road to play the leagues unbeaten teams, the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.
