The Jacksonville Jaguars are 2-3 and in second place in the AFC South. They thought that things were going to be different this season after they were competitive in their first week loss to the Colts, but the team managed to do little to convince their critics that this was not a bad football team. The Jaguars have beaten those NFL teams that have struggled do far in the 2009 season but have lost to teams that had just as to prove. The two Jaguar wins came against the Texans and Titans. While this does give them two wins within the division, it cannot makeup for losses to a struggling Cardinals and an embarrassing 41-0 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Jacksonville has been pretty alright at moving the football. They are 20th in the league with 328 yards a game. The Jaguars has problems scoring though. They average 19.4 points a game. The Jacksonville Jaguars are supposed to be a running team, but, as fans at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium can attest to, the running backs have not been consistent. Maurice Jones-Drew needs another running back to help him stay fresh. This is the first season he is the feature back. He is doing a good job overall, picking up 4.4 yards a carry, but he needs someone to run the ball with him, perhaps picking up 10 carries or so a game. Quarterback David Garrard has been pretty good as a game manager. He has thrown just one pick, but then again he only has five touchdowns. He needs to complete a higher percentage of his passes to prove that this team can keep the drives alive on third and ling. The Jaguars are converting just 36.8 of their third downs and need to do much better for this ball control offense to wear down opponents. The offense also needs to keep the football to keep the defense off the field. The Jaguars are 24th in the league in scoring defense. They are letting opponents score 25.4 points a game. The running defense is not great and the passing defense is just awful. This is not a turnover thing either. The offense has turned the ball over a total of seven times. The defense has forced nine turnovers, but has been unable to stop the other team's quarterback which means death in this NFL era. The Jaguars schedule ahead gives them a break. They play the Rams in Week 6, have a bye in Week 7, play the Titans in Week 8, and then the Chiefs in Week 9. This team could be 5-3 by Week 10 despite their defensive and offensive woes.
