The Houston Texans are 5-4 with seven games left in the 2009 season and tied for second place in the AFC South. This is a pleasant development for the team as they try and reach the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history. They are part of a logjam of AFC teams fighting for that last wild card spot. The team has been winning these games thanks to the passing game with quarterback Matt Schaub at the helm. Schaub leads a passing attack that averages 284 yards a game and is major part of those 24.2 points they score a contest. He ranks among the league's best quarterbacks with the sixth best QB Rating (98.1) and the fifth most touchdown passes (17). His favorite target has been wide receiver Andre Johnson. Johnson is one of the best receivers in the NFL talent wise and has 54 receptions for 800 yards and four touchdowns. The Houston Texans lost a valuable target when tight end Owen Daniels went down with a season ending injury. Joel Dreessen will fill in for the prolific pass-catching tight end. Another cause for concern is the Texans' issues running the football in this season. Running back Steve Slaton has struggled with just 3.1 yards a carry and the coaching staff seems unwilling to hand the ball off to Ryan Moats all game long. The team defense ranks in the middle of the league. They give up 20.9 points a game and neither stop the run or pass very well. The defense has played very well of late though. They contained Peyton Manning and the Colts passing attack and held Indianapolis to 20 points. The Texans will need the defense to remain as vigilant in the weeks to come. The remaining Houston Texans schedule includes three division games and a major test in the New England Patriots. The schedule will bring four games home to Reliant Stadium, including the second game against the Colts. Find your Texans tickets through OnlineSeats and see this possible historic 2009 season.
