The Denver Broncos starting the season so well, going 6-0 and blowing away the rest of the AFC West. Four weeks later the Broncos are 6-3 and tied with the San Diego Chargers for the division lead. The schedule ahead is littered with tough and potentially tough games, as well as supposedly easy games against the Chiefs twice and the Raiders. The recent downturn has seen the Broncos average 11.3 points a game and give up 28.3. This runs counter to Denver's previous claim as the best defense in the NFL. The question is whether this means Kyle Orton's honeymoon as new quarterback is over. He still has shown the ability hit the deep ball and get the first down on third and longs, but has also shown hints of the limited quarterback he was in Chicago. Rookie running back Knowshon Moreno has done a good job running the football and establishing himself as the feature back in this new-look Broncos offense. He began the year with a nagging injury, but pretty consistently hovers around the 4.0 yards per carry average that is the bench mark of a good running back. Denver wide receiver Brandon Marshall has bounced back from a difficult offseason with a decent reception total and plenty of big plays. He, Jabar Gaffney, Tony Scheffler, and Eddie Royal are a great group of receivers and tight ends to help Orton spread the field. The true caliber of the defense is not clear. But at the beginning of the season it was absolutely impossible to run against this squad. Now it seems to be a little bit easier. In order to avoid failing to make the playoffs at the hands of the Chargers in 2009 the team has to return to whatever inspired that early season play. Otherwise desperate teams like the Giants and Eagles will exploit the Broncos own shattered confidence. The remainder of the 2009 schedule includes four home games at Invesco Field at Mile High. This season could be prolonged with a trip to the playoffs though. Nobody quite knows what to expect, so get your Denver Broncos tickets here for great seats at a great price.
