The Cleveland Browns are the lone team in the AFC North without a winning record and without any playoff aspirations. It would be great for fans at Cleveland Browns Stadium if the team could simply establish a starting quarterback. Quinn and Anderson have been taking turns disappointing during this trying 1-8 season so far. At least with a quarterback in line they could make a run at not being one of the worst NFL teams or teams in professional football. The team now has the worst offense in the league, scoring just 8.7 points a game. The running game has yet to establish running the football to divert from the passing deficiency. Though, at this point, the Browns might as well set up their own Wildcat formation with Joe Cribbs behind center and Jamal Lewis and Jerome Harrison on his flanks. The defense has been dreadful as well, giving up 25 points a game. Though, it is hard to blame a squad that has to spend so much time on the field for eventually breaking down. They give up 227.7 passing yards a game which is not terrible, but get beaten down and allow 166.4 rushing yards a game which is incredibly bad. The Cleveland Browns have seven games left on the 2009 schedule to provide at least a little optimism for the 2010 season. The game against the Detroit Lions is winnable, as is the game against the Raiders, Chiefs, and perhaps the Jaguars. The only really unrealistic stretch is from Week 12 to Week 14 when they play the Bengals, Chargers, and Steelers. Two of these games are at home at Cleveland Browns Stadium, so that might make a difference.
