This is a pretty impressive group, and Nash has worked wonders with less. The reality is that in any other season with a full free agent period and training camp, the Phoenix Suns would not be a contender. However, in a season marked by calamity, a basketball team with an amiable and talented point guard and enough pieces who can shoot from the perimeter has a chance to land in the postseason and championship series.  The Phoenix Suns first took the court in 1968 and have two NBA Finals appearances to their franchise name. Those first few seasons a young general manager by the name of Jerry Colangelo built a team around Gail Goodrich and Dick Van Arsdale. They quickly became competitive, but failed to reach the postseason on a consistent basis. Then, in 1975 Colangelo traded for point guard Paul Westphal and drafted center Alvan Adams. These two rounded out a starting lineup that included undersized power forward Gar Heard, small forward Curtis Perry, and shooting guard Ricky Sobers. This group went 42-40 and went on an incredible playoff run. They beat the Sonics and Warriors in the Western Conference side of the postseason bracket. That run would end in the NBA Finals as the Celtics put the Suns down in six games. Soon after, the Suns were marred by a drug scandal in the 1980s. By the 1980s, Colangelo had taken over the basketball team and built a roster around Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, and Tyrone Corbin. The addition of Charles Barkley put the team over the edge and landed the club in the 1993 NBA Finals. Unfortunately, the Suns met a driven Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls vanquished the Suns in six games. The next few seasons were relatively successful but first round losses became common place. These teams lacked a true superstar. In 2004, the entrance of Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire brought competitive times back to the US Airways Center. They consistently finished at the top of the Western Conference standings but were never quite able to reach the finals. Nash remains a fixture in Phoenix and the fans look forward to purchasing Phoenix Suns tickets to enjoy the new season at the US Airways Center.
