For years the Philadelphia 76ers have essentially won by outworking the opposition and the focal point of this game plan was guard/forward Andre Iguodala. Iguodala was very commendably keeping this franchise afloat, but the dedicated fans at Wells Fargo Center who chose the NBA over the college game were going to tire of this predictable story. Then, in this wacky summer of 2012, Doug Collins was presented with a gift. A four-team trade sent to the Nuggets to a much better situation for his skill set and added center Andrew Bynum to the roster. Now much is expected from the club as the team finally has a foreseeable path in the future and Philadelphia 76ers tickets appear to be those for a contender, next season if not this season.

Bynum will be the giant with low post skills on offense and a mean streak swatting shots on the defensive end. Last season, he had an explosive postseason, managing to score nearly 17 points as Kobe became an offensive black hole and defending the rim with an incredible 3 blocks a game. The Sixers expect much of the same. No, they expect more from the young center. This is the one guy who can even compare to Dwight Howard at center and they want to see a 20-10 machine over the course of the 2012-2013 NBA season.

With Iguodala gone westward, Evan Turner gets to start at small forward. Turner has much the same game as Iguodala, so his development was impaired by the star. Now free to play his way, he could make good on the promise that made him the number two pick in the draft two seasons ago. Add the always offensively explosive Jason Richardson, now more of an outside shooter than a penetrating force, and the ultra-quick point guard Jrue Holiday and Philly has a more than decent chance to compete in the suddenly deep Atlantic Division.

Ultimately, this season will, at the very least, be about bringing this deep roster together with the many, varied talents learning and accepting roles. At the very most, the 76ers are going to surprise again and end up overmatching the Miami Heat with a player for every situation.
