The Orlando Magic took a huge step up in the ranks of the NBA by reaching the Finals against the Lakers last season, and there is absolutely no reason for them not to be able to do it again this year. Continued success for Orlando this season will be based on three simple concepts. First, under the guidance of Patrick Ewing, Howard needs to learn the post moves that will make him less predictable and more difficult to defend against in the paint; if Howard can accomplish this, the Magic instantly becomes a far more dangerous foe for anyone they face.

The second major factor for the Magic is that Nelson must stay healthy, as the constant presence of a dependable point guard will fill many gaps and answer multiple questions for the Magic. The third and possibly biggest priority for this team may simply be summed up by saying that the players in doubt, such as Carter, Marcin Gortat, and new acquisition Matt Barnes, must all step up and prove their worth. If all three of these "question marks" turn into valuable contributors, Orlando will likely defend its Eastern Conference crown.
