New Orleans Hornets Tickets
Many doubted the Charlotte community's ability and willingness to support a professional basketball team. For one thing, it was a small city (although the area did have a sizable market within a few hours' drive). And North Carolina was college basketball country, where the fans' ardor for the amateur game had never translated into a similar affection for the NBA.
Nevertheless, Charlotte was admitted to the league on April 22, 1987, along with Minnesota, Miami, and Orlando. Charlotte and Miami began play in 1988-89, while Minnesota and Orlando first saw action a year later. The Charlotte team adopted the name Hornets, which had historic importance in Charlotte sports history-for many years the city's minor league baseball team was known as the Hornets, and its World Football League team had carried the same name.
Owner George Shinn hired Carl Scheer as the team's first general manager. As commissioner of the American Basketball Association, Scheer had successfully run the ABA's Carolina Cougars from 1970 to 1974 before moving on to revitalize the Denver Nuggets in the mid-1970s. On the other hand, he had also been associated with the dismal Los Angeles Clippers teams of the mid-1980s.

 For a couple of years the New Orleans Hornets as though they were to be perennial championship contenders for years to come, and were only one win away from reaching the 2008 Western Conference Finals. The Hornets, led by coach Byron Scott and superstar point guard Chris Paul, appeared to be headed in the right direction to bigger and better things. Simply put, the Hornets need help on defense in the paint. No matter how you look at it, New Orleans needed a force in the middle, and with the acquisition of Emeka Okafor to replace Tyson Chandler at center, this should give the team the added defense they were previously lacking. Chris Paul, the face of the Hornets, still has plenty of offensive options to pass to with Peja Stojakovic, David West, and James Posey, and other than the need for Emeka Okafor to validate the heads-up swap with Tyson Chandler, the franchise's biggest priority comes down to one thing – whether or not the current roster is willing to dedicate itself to Scott and once again display the drive and desire that were so evident a few years ago, but absent last postseason. This team needs to leave everything on the floor each and every night if they wish to once again leave an impression on the rest of the Western Conference.
