San Antonio Spurs 2009 Playoffs

The San Antonio Spurs have only missed the postseason four times since joining the NBA after the merger with the ABA in 1976. George Gervin was the first star to consistently lead the Spurs to playoff tickets. His teams won five division titles in seven seasons, but could never advance beyond the conference finals. After his departure, the Spurs struggled, but soon found solace in David Robinson. Robinson became the corner stone of the team for seasons leading them to four division titles, but once again was never able to take San Antonio to the championship. After a fluke season in 1996-97, the Spurs suddenly had Robinson and Tim Duncan. The twin towers immediately returned the Spurs to their winning ways, and finally took the Spurs to the NBA Championship. The finals victory was the first of four for Tim Duncan as San Antonio and the AT&T Center remain a dominant team that almost every club must go through for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Once again the Spurs bring a talented international roster to the floor in the 2008-09 season. Tim Duncan is the power forward born in the Virgin Islands, Tony Parker is the point guard born in France, and Manu Ginobili and Fabricio Oberto are the starting shooting guard and center from Argentina. The starting lineup is completed by American Bruec Bowen at small forward. The veteran group has been playing together for years and is a great defensive unit and a smooth offensive machine. The Spurs are coached by Gregg Popovich and show no signs of ending their years as an elite team soon. The Spurs are one of the few teams that can be counted on to have playoff tickets come spring.
San Antonio Spurs Background
The team is so good because of their flexibility. Though many fans may think the regular season schedule at the AT&T Center is one of defensive effort after defensive effort, they are wrong. Parker is one of the quickest players in the league. Few players can stop him face to face. His penetration kills teams as they have to watch him lay it up for an easy two pass it off if a defensive player moves to block the basket. Ginobili is quicker than he looks and difficult to guard. His elbows fly whenever he takes the ball off the dribble and to the basket. He can hit the outside shot and has underestimated hops. Duncan is the big fundamental. His post moves are text book and his jumper off the backboard is legendary. Bowen is the defensive ace with a three point shot and Oberto is the hustle man who does all the little things. This team has been practicing their style of basketball for years and will be certain to bring Spurs playoff tickets at the end of every season.
