Phoenix Suns 2009 Playoffs

The Phoenix Suns postseason history is something to behold. The franchise is championship-less, but it is still proud of its runs at contention. Phoenix surprised the league when they made it to the NBA finals in 1976 in their eighth season and have been surprising the experts ever since. Walter Davis was the early star who is famous for his involvement with drugs, but should also be noted for his ability to lead Phoenix to Suns playoff tickets for almost a decade. The Suns made another strong run at the championship in the 1992-93 season. Charles Barkley, Dan Majerle, and Kevin Johnson were the core of a team that tried to challenge the Chicago Bulls in the last year of their first three-peat. Though Jordan and the Bulls won the series in six games, the series proved to be one of the more entertaining in NBA Finals history. In addition to Jordan’s incredible performances, including a 55 point Game 4, Charles Barkley played great and the Game 5 went to triple overtime.
This season a championship run would be closer to the first appearance than the 1993 Finals. The team is respected, but an unknown. Terry Porter is the new coach and his changes in philosophy will be interesting to see. Steve Nash is a point guard whose vision and passing ability fueled one of the most impressive offenses in years. Those seasons have pushed an up tempo game that brought the franchise to the Western Conference Finals. No NBA Finals appearances sparked the trade for Shaq last season. His entry into the starting lineup will slow the game down, as will the addition of Grant Hill. The veterans still have some skill, but age and injury have left them only a fraction of the players they used to be. Nash still ahs Amare Stoudamire to run the floor with, but the shooting guard spot looks like it is going to Raja Bell. Bell is a fine shooter, but by leaving Leandro Barbosa on the bench a clear shift from all out offense to a strong defensive effort is obvious. This season could go in a number of directions for the team, some of which could include Suns playoff tickets.
Phoenix Suns Background
Steve Nash will have to be hidden in the team defense scheme though. His overpowering ability to run the offense made fans and experts overlook his problems covering another point guard. By leaving Barbosa on the bench it does give the second team a scoring spark. Goran Dragic is a European import so it is difficult to say what he will do, but Matt Barnes is the kind of athlete Nash loves to see. Boris Diaw needs to improve again this season to put some points on the board when Stoudamire moves over to center and he enters at the forward when the lineup goes small. This season he could see a lot more shots and a 31.7 shooting percentage from three will not cut it. The hopes for Suns playoff tickets this season is going to see a lot more demanded out of him and the aging veterans over the course of the regular season schedule at US Airways Center.
