Philadelphia 76ers 2009 Playoffs
The Philadelphia 76ers have been one of the marquee teams of the NBA sine they were the Syracuse Nationals. The franchise has had some of the biggest names in the history of professional basketball on the roster. Names like Charles Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain, George McGinnis, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, and Allen Iverson. The 76ers have been big players in the hunt for the NBA Championship with playoff tickets available for most the history, as the team went from the Nationals to the 76ers to the Sixers. The team ahs struggled to win another title since the incredible team of the 1982-83 season that featured Dr. J, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones, and Andrew Toney. The Sixers came close in 2001 with Allen Iverson providing the offense and the rest of the team playing a stifling defense. Since then Philadelphia has been trying to bring the good times back to the Wachovia Center.
Sixers playoff tickets are almost guaranteed this season. While many though the Knicks would be the busiest team in the Atlantic Division, few thought Philadelphia would be more active than resigning Andre Iguodala. Instead they resigned the versatile shooting guard and stole Elton Brand away from the Los Angeles Clippers. The 76ers roster looks like it could contend for the Eastern Conference title and not just playoff tickets this season. Andre Miller is still a quality point guard and now he has Iguodala and Brand to pass to. Samuel Dalembert is a rebounding machine that can flush it down close and Thaddeus Young is a exciting new player who showed incredible promise late in the season.

With Louis Williams and Willie Green breaking peoples ankles and hitting threes off the bench and Reggie Evans finding his role as the rebounding big man off the bench, Philadelphia’s 2008-09 season is shaping up to be a very good one. The team should be one of the few Eastern Conference teams able to give the Celtics a challenge during the regular season schedule. In fact the Brand move made the rest of the league wake up and all of the sudden experts are expecting playoff tickets and possible runs to the Eastern Conference Finals. The squad is still young, but the team is full of athleticism and true basketball talent. This season would be a great year to rediscover the Wachovia Center.
