New Jersey Nets 2009 Playoffs
The New Jersey Nets have been a troubled franchise since the ABA merged with the NBA in 1977. Before the merger Dr. J led the team to two ABA championships in three seasons. After the merger the Nets would have to wait until the 21st century to see a deep run in the finals again. Nets playoff tickets rarely led out of the first round despite the efforts of Buck Williams and Derrick Coleman. The addition of Jason Kidd through a trade in 2000 and the drafting of Richard Jefferson started the struggling franchise’s road to respectability. Kidd started a fast-paced full court game and immediately took the Nets to the NBA Finals in the 2001-02 season and the 2002-03 season. Though they lost both years, the trip to the finals and the realization of postseason aspirations made playoff tickets an annual occurrence.
The 2008-09 season will be the first full season without Jason Kidd to lead the way. He departed a floundering team in the middle of last season in a trade with the Mavericks. In return the Nets received Devin Harris, a potential star in the making at point guard. The first absence from the postseason in six seasons kicked off a slew of trades meant to rebuild and redefine the team. While Harris and Vince Carter should provide plenty of scoring, Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons will get a chance to prove themselves as the seasons schedule wears on. The two players came to Milwaukee with high hopes but were derailed by injuries and quarrels with the coaches. The two hope to find themselves with playoff tickets for the first time in their careers.

Josh Boone and Sean Williams showed flashes of potential last season, and if they can continue to block shots and rebound with as much energy as they did last year they will find their place in the Nets roster cemented.
