Milwaukee Bucks 2009 Playoffs

Milwaukee Bucks

Fans just joined the NBA consciousness when Michael Jordan started winning championships do not this but the Milwaukee Bucks have been a contender since their second season in the NBA in 1969. The early Bucks were treats to watch with playoff tickets because of the exploits of Oscar Robertson and Lew Alcindor (soon to be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). The Bucks went 66-16 in just their third season and went to the NBA Finals to play the Baltimore Bullets. The Alcindor years would yield another trip to the finals in 1974, but this time the Celtics came victorious in a hotly contested series that went all seven games.

The Bucks responded by trading Abdul-Jabbar to the Lakers. He took the best years of the franchise and his sky hook with him and Milwaukee received Junior Bridgeman, Brian Winters, and David Myers. Though the trade did not leave the team without enough talent to get playoff tickets, it did not leave the team with enough talent to get to the finals. The trade led to an ownership change, after its largest stockholder was disgusted with the trade. Plenty of good players would come over the years, including Marques Johnson, Bob Lanier, Jack Sikma, Ricky Pierce, Terry Cummings, and Sidney Moncrief. Plenty of good seasons would follow as well, but the team only made it to the conference finals three time sin the ‘80s and never went to the NBA Finals.

Milwaukee Bucks Milwaukee Bucks Background

The Bucks of today are hoping that Andrew Bogut continues his development. Bogut will never be as good as his number one pick three seasons ago would demand, but he can put together solid numbers. He improved his athleticism last season and was able to actually get off the ground for the first time in his NBA career at the Bradley Center. The Bucks can again return playoff tickets to the fans with a roster that has been purged a little bit. The Chinese bust is gone (well, he was never going to work out in Milwaukee at least) and Bobby Simmons contract is gone. In their places they have Richard Jefferson from New Jersey and Charlie Villanueva back from injury.

Michael Redd should be able to lead an explosive jump shooting offense with those two. Luke Ridnour is not the typical starting point in the league, but his pass-first mentality is needed for this lineup. Since this team is not built to play defense anyway, his in ability to stop anybody will mesh in with everybody else’s in ability to stop everybody else. The team could make the postseason with all the offense on board, but for Bucks playoff tickets to become a reality the shooting barrage will have to survive the highs and lows of the 82-game schedule.
