Miami Heat 2009 Playoffs

The Miami Heat have been a good model for an expansion team in the NBA. The franchise emerged from the expansion years to become a team that has ridden the roller coaster of the NBA experience. The club went from a last place roster to a title contender in less than a decade. The catalyst for that adventure was Pat Riley. By the mid-90s the team was on the verge of falling into the middle of the Eastern Conference and not being able to climb out. Riley took charge and created a roster with Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn, and Dan Majerle. The team went improved by 19 games in the 1996-97 season and made playoff tickets available for a division leader. The team played beyond the first round for the first time and met the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bulls would end the hopes quickly in the round.
The Heat suffered through the rest of the Bulls second three-peat like the rest of the NBA and the roster began to need a major overhaul. That overhaul began to make headway with the 2003 draft. The Heat drafted Dwayne Wade with the fifth pick and signed Lamar Odom in free agency. Odom would b a key in acquiring Shaq from the Lakers the next season. Wade and Shaq created another great guard-center combo and Alonzo Mouring rejoined the team to add depth. A host of former stars that desperately wanted a championship shot. Antoine Walker, Jason Williams, and Gary Payton bolstered the roster. The team’s playoff tickets went pretty but the club lost the conference finals in 2005, but came back and went to the NBA Finals in 2006. That series they surprised the basketball world behind the stellar play of Wade and won the NBA Championship.
Miami Heat Background
Injuries and age made the 2006 the last for the aging star laden roster. Now the Heat are ready to build a new roster and make a new run. Wade is back, finally healthy and after an invigorating performance in the Olympics. He will have help from Shawn Marion. The star is playing in the final year of his contract and will be looking to make a big impact without the help of Steve Nash to prove he is worth a large long-term contract. He can rebound, defend bigger and smaller players, and run. He is truly the X-Factor. He is non-traditional shot will be pleasantly welcome on a team lacking scorers. Heat playoff tickets are far from a certainty, but the X-Factor will be a major factor in the run at the American Airlines Arena.
The other factors include the ability of Udonis Haslem and Mark Blount to replace the production of Shaq. The aging star had been underperforming for his pay level, but he was still a force to contend with nonetheless. The hope is that maybe Michael Beasley will produce big number sin his first season in the NBA. He was a monster in summer league, but playing against NBA castoffs and hopefuls is different than playing the regular season. The point guard position is weak, and Marcus Banks can only really hope to take some pressure off Wade by bringing the ball up. Luckily the Heat play in the East, so it is very possible that passable play by the cast of replacements will lead to Heat playoff tickets with a decent regular season record.
