2008 NBA Playoffs

The basketball has been played long through fall and winter and now the end of the season and the crowning of a champion is near. Every club has a star that can take over games by themselves, but in the NBA Playoffs it takes entire team take postseason tickets from the first round through the conference semifinals and finals and into the NBA championship round. Sixteen teams will start the journey in games scheduled in late April and hope the trip ends in June.

The NBA has been deciding the best basketball team in the world since 1947. The finals have been synonymous with two teams, the Lakers and the Celtics. The Lakers became the first dominant team with George Mikan in 1948. Then the team was in Minneapolis and then the team won five championships in six seasons. The Lakers came back to the forefront t of the sport in the ‘80s. This time the team won five in a decade from their new home in Los Angeles. NBA Playoff tickets to these games saw Magic Johnson lead the Showtime Lakers on fast breaks with dazzling passing and vision for a player as tall as a power forward.

The Lakers may have been the first dynasty, but the Boston Celtics had the greatest run in NBA history. From 1957 to 1969 the Celtics won 11 NBA Finals. While other teams had superstars like Wilt Chamberlain dominating in the post, Boston played a team ball with several All Stars. Bob Cousy, Tommy Heinsohn, Bill Russell, and K.C. Jones led the team on a 13 year domination of the NBA. Every year there were playoff tickets and every season the Celtics were expected to have a place in the championship series.

This most recent NBA Finals renewed the rivalry between the teams, between Wilt and Russel, Magic and Bird, and now Bryant and Pierce. Paul Pierce had help from Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. The three stars came together to lead the best team in the regular season to the postseason on a run that would a disappointment if it did not reach the championship round. These three Celtics struggled through the first couple of rounds, but found their rhythm and beat the Lakers, who had stars of their won in Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, decisively 4 games to 2. The league rejoiced that the two teams that have become the cornerstone of the league both had NBA playoff tickets and that those tickets met in the finals for a series that rejuvenated interest in the postseason after years of the Spurs dominating.

The Celtics won their first World Championship in 2007 since 1986. With their off-season additions they were heavily favored to win and they did not disappoint. In 2008 seemingly nothing has changed expect they might be even better. The Celtics have the same team coming back only this is a team that has been hardened by a run to a championship. They are definitely a huge favorite dominating in the 2008 - 2009 playoffs.
