Monroe is already playing like a veteran, picking his shots wisely and hitting them 52.3 percent of the time. Rodney Stuckey is his partner in crime on the Pistons. He is no longer the future of the Pistons backcourt, but is a solid player who could be a good number two in the backcourt and has found his place at shooting guard. Point guard Brandon Knight has taken over at point, and has been much more of a scoring point guard than a distributor. The trio of Monroe, Stuckey, and Knight are not quite enough to return a winning record for the Detroit Pistons. Career bridge-player Jason Maxiell and soon to be free agent Tayshaun Prince have not been enough either. Joe Dumars is expected to use the amnesty clause on Ben Gordon, who is currently a grossly overpaid average sixth man. He is also expected to let Prince walk away after failing to find a taker come the trade deadline. This leaves the draft as the primary avenue to add talent. Though the order has to be set, there are going to be plenty of quality options at forward inn this draft, making it perfect for the Pistons. Fans would like to cheer the addition of a scorer, but the GM may be more interested in picking up a player like power forward Arnett Moultrie. Moultrie is a tweener, but an athletic tweener with length and the ability to put on muscle without sacrificing athleticism. He is projected to be a combo forward and should be an excellent rebounder at the next level. The Pistons would become a vastly improved rebounding team with another player with great court vision. Detroit would appear to be well on its way to building a team in the image of the most recent championship squad.

 The Detroit Pistons have played in the National Basketball League as the Fort Wayne Pistons and the NBA as both the Fort Wayne and Detroit Pistons. This means the team has been a professional sports franchise for quite some time. Playing in the NBL from 1941 to 1947, they won two championships. After joining the NBA in 1948, Detroit won three more, though not until much later. Those first two are largely forgotten. As the Fort Wayne Pistons, the team brought home consecutive championships in 1944 and 1945, beating Sheboygan both years. The next decade was not the best for the franchise. The players had taken to point shaving and throwing game in order to earn extra cash. The basketball club redeemed itself the next decade, featuring Dave DeBusschere, Dave Bing, Jimmy Walker, and Bob Lanier. No championships were won, but the team would soon become a perennial contender in the 1980s. The Bad Boys – Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Vinny Johnson, Rick Mahorn, John Salley, Dennis Rodman, and Adrian Dantley – waited out the Celtics 1980s domination in the Eastern Conference and won two straight championships with a tough defense and talented guards who score in bunches. The Detroit Pistons could not keep the dynasty rolling, as Jordan and the Bulls came into their own. Grant Hill tried to carry on the winning tradition. The 21st century ushered in a new era, an era where the defensive intensity returned but without the star power. The 2004 Pistons roster that disassembled the feuding Lakers were not untalented. However, they were much better than the sum of their parts. Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace, and Ben Wallace were skilled on their own, and played suffocating defense.
