Chicago Bulls Tickets

As the Chicago Bulls commence their preseason, fans are expected to be on the lookout for Derrick Rose, who is expected to play again after he tore his ACL way back in April last year. Focus is expected to turn on Luol Deng and Joakim Noah, All-Stars, including Jimmy Butler, the talented youngster. However, there is other lesser known talent the preseason could highlight and prepare for the upcoming season.

Roles to be played by the main players during the 2013/14 season are widely expected to be obvious. In fact, Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose are expected to make the starting five. With the Chicago Bulls expected to go for a center, the possible targets were Rudy Gobert from France, Gorgui Dieng from Louisville and Mason Plumlee. However, the Bulls did not go for a big man but stuck with Tony Snell, the swingman from New Mexico.

Snell is able to stretch the court and one of the stars of Las Vegas’ NBA Summer League. He even hit five of the eight attempted three points while playing the Dallas Mavericks. However, Snell was not just drafted for his shooting prowess but he enjoys a wingspan of 6'11.5", which the guard who stands at 6'7" is expected to use to the best of his ability in defense.

Erik Murphy has also been selected by the Bulls mostly for his ability to shoot. On guard depth, Marquis Teague is ranked third behind Kirk Hinrich and Derrick Rose. If Teague can marshal a strong preseason, he might end up the primary backup for Rose.

Dexter Pittman is a free agent now and reports indicate he could join Chicago Bulls in their training camp. The former star from Texas is a potential third-sting giant with his little effective touches across the basket something to reckon with. Under Tom Thibodeau's guidance, The Bulls Coach, Pittman could be the solid defender to watch throughout the coming season.

Chicago Bulls History

The Chicago Bulls started playing professionally back in 1966. Then they were part of one of the first major expansions undertaken by the NBA. The club quickly established itself as a competitive team. They had a pair of tough guards in Norm Van Lier and Jerry Sloan and relied on Bob Love and Chet Walker in the front court. This group had four 50-win seasons in the franchise’s first decade in the league. The Bulls went as far as the conference finals.

All this changed once the NBA merged with the ABA. The Bulls were one of the rare NBA teams to endure worse seasons after the dispersal draft. Of course, this all led to the pivotal summer of 1984. That summer the Bulls drafted Michael Jordan with the third pick. He would alter the direction of the franchise. Before the arrival of Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant as teammates and Phil Jackson as the head coach, Chicago would consistently reach the playoffs and Jordan would consistently lead the league in scoring.

MJ actually changed the way the game was played and was a major reason the league was able to expand once again. Yet, Jordan had to learn to play with the rest of the team before his team would become serious contenders. Jackson convinced Jordan to play within the Tex Winters triangle offense and the Bulls quickly overtook the Detroit Pistons and became the best team in the Eastern Conference and the NBA. With this offense, which worked with Jordan pre and post-baseball, and an oppressive defense the Bulls had two three-peats and won a total of six championships in eight seasons.

These glory days came to an end just as the 21st century began and the front office struggled to find its star for a decade. The dependable Elton Brand and the talented high school duo of Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry were not enough to avoid the lottery year after year. The next supreme talent to arrive in Chicago was Derrick Rose. Rose has been a dynamic point guard with another level of athleticism that has Bulls fans waiting for the next three-peat.
