Charlotte is about to a jolt at the NBA level. Last season it appeared Michael Jordan was running this team into the ground in purpose, not to have the best chance to land the number one pick in the 2012 NBA draft but to potentially try a third comeback. It may take some time at Time Warner Cable Arena, but eventually the basketball fans so concerned with college basketball will realize Charlotte Bobcats tickets are more than must for fans of the sport. General Manager Rich Cho has taken the first step to change the culture which made this team a perennial last place finisher in the Southeast Division and a non-contender in the Eastern Conference.

It began by dropping Paul Silas and inserting Mike Dunlap as head coach. This is a young roster that has already gotten younger to start the 2012 season. The future of the franchise lies with Kemba Walker, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Bismark Biyombo so why play against their skill set? Dunlap is going to be all about pressuring the ball on defense to create easy transition points. In the process expect Walker to show the first signs of becoming a starting point guard, perhaps overtaking Ramon Sessions in the depth chart.

Expect Kidd-Gilchrist to be pushed by fellow rookie Jeffery Taylor. Taylor is a second round pick and needs to prove he belongs in the NBA to earn a decent contract beyond this season. Kidd-Gilchrist is going to have to have to begin to play up to some of his potential to keep the starting job. This means becoming a great defender, hitting his midrange jumper, and finishing at the rim in transition. Expect Biyombo to make another jump as a defender. He already used his ample size and wingspan to have moments of brilliance, once blocking seven shots in a contest with Dwight Howard. This season he will have adjusted to the NBA refs and will get to the 30 minute mark more often, so expect him to compete for the lead in blocks and blocks per game while putting up pretty good rebounding numbers.

Charlotte is still going to end up in the lottery in an underwhelming draft, but at this point they do not need much more young talent. It is time for the talent they have to develop and Coach Dunlap is going to be just the guy to inspire these guys to play by allowing them to have fun.
