The 2008 NBA champion Boston Celtics are not ones to sit back and made a big move in the offseason in an attempt to get back to the NBA Finals. With the acquisition of veteran power forward Rasheed Wallace from Detroit, along with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo, the Celtics will now possess the best lineup in the NBA. Any one of these seasoned Celtic vets has the ability to take over a game on any given night, and the key for Boston is to keep them all healthy. Last season, which saw Garnett missing much of the season and the playoffs, left the Celtics without much of the fire that they had displayed in 2008. This Boston team could be even better, but there are a lot of tough teams in the Eastern Conference. In light of that tough competition, two other moves that may have been just as important as the acquisition of Wallace were the re-signings of important role players, Eddie House and Glen Davis. While some seasons are more difficult to predict than others, with Boston it does not take a genius to figure out that if Garnett stays healthy for the entire season, and Rasheed Wallace keeps his head straight, the Celts should be playing basketball deep into the playoffs, while having a great chance of returning to the NBA Finals. Pierce, Allen, Rondo, and Kendrick Perkins, plus bench sharpshooter Eddie House, give coach Doc Rivers a magnificent assortment of weapons that will enable the Celtics to flourish if Garnett and Wallace play up to their standard abilities. Outside of the team's big-name players, the other key question in Boston is in regards to the depth of the Celtics' bench, particularly in the low post. Leon Powe has moved on to the Cavaliers, but Glen "Big Baby" Davis has signed and will be around for at least two more seasons. While Powe's departure is one thing, it may hurt twice as much because he ended up with a conference rival, but a rotation which includes Garnett, Perkins, and Davis, should still put Boston in a great position to compete for the title once again. Fans have to like it when their team is not satisfied to sit back and rest on their recent championship laurels, or fall back on key injuries as an excuse. The 2009-2010 Boston Celtics have improved an already great team, so you need to get tickets now and come out to the TD Garden in Boston to cheer them back to the playoffs and quite possibly the NBA finals once again.
