Artist Biography - Mxpx

The MxPx (Magnified Plaid band), the pop punk band was formed by Mike Herrera (vocalist/bassist), Yuri Ruley (drummer) and Andy Husted(the guitarist) in 1992 Bremerton, Washington, United States.
MxPx came into existence when three, 15-year-old kids, got inspired by The Descendents, NOFX and some Southern California skate-punk bands. The three were classfellows at Central Kitsap High School, Silverdale, WA. Intially they didn't really like their band name, but it was a tribute to the original guitarist's charm with plaid shirts. Thus, the name was abbreviated to M.P., but in Yuri Ruley's handwriting, periods became X and as he also made the show posters for the band, the four-letter moniker stuck to it. Andy Husted left the band in 1995 to continue his college. Therefore, Tom Wisniewski replaced him.
In 1993, while playing ‘showcase' in Herrera's parents' back yard, MxPx caught the attention of Tooth & Nail Records. For the show Mike Herrera practiced so hard that he almost lost his voice. In 1994, when they were in High School, Pokinatcha their first major album was released. The Pokinatcha Punk, lately became the band's logo.
In the year 1995, their two more albums Tooth & Nail, Teenage Politics in the year 1995, and Life in General, 1996 was released. After the success they received a big distribution contract with A&M Records. Two studio albums in 1998, ‘Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo' and in 2000 ‘The Ever Passing Moment' were released in collaboration with Tooth & Nail and A&M.
Fulfilling the contract obligations with Tooth & Nail they decided to part ways. A&M exclusively released Before Everything & After in 2003. In 2005, MxPx discontinued A&M and signed with SideOneDummy Records to release their seventh full-length album Panic. In 2006, they came out with Let's Rock that was compiled by b-sides album. It was released on SideOne Dummy. Let it Happen deluxe issue, a Tooth and Nail Records was a re-release of Let it Happen with new songs and a DVD of own music videos.
