Country duo Montgomery Gentry evoke the sound and spirit of Southern rockers like Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, and Charlie Daniels, painting themselves as rowdy redneck rebels who still hold small-town values. Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry first met in Early Tymz, a Lexington, KY, band led by Montgomery's brother, future country star John Michael Montgomery. Both Eddie and Troy had been performing on the local club scene since their teenage years, the former as a drummer in his father's band. After Early Tymz broke up, a new group called Young Country formed from its ashes, with John Michael billed out front.

Eddie Montgomery and his brother, John Michael, created their own band "Early Tymz" and played in the Lexington area. After this band dissolved, Troy, Eddie, and John Michael formed a new group called John Michael Montgomery and Young Country. After several years, John Michael went on to pursue a solo career and Eddie and Troy re-teamed to form a new duo initially named "Deuce". The duo was eventually renamed Montgomery Gentry.
Montgomery Gentry quickly became a favorite in the Lexington area with their "hillbilly honky tonk" sound that has a definite kick to it. The crowds grew and the fervent fans developed into a groundswell of support that started getting the attention of Nashville. After hearing the music of this powerful duo, Allen Butler, President, Sony Music Nashville set up a showcase for Sony staff and industry insiders. Even before the standing ovation and calls for encores were over, a deal was in the works and the duo was signed to Columbia Records.

The old saying "what you see is what you get" applies when you meet Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. Rowdy, fun loving, spontaneous, and awesome talent all describe what these guys are about.
