The Nationals move was not without complication. Needing a stadium the city and the league squabbled as the league tried to find a new ownership group concurrently. A group led by real estate billionaire Theodore N. Lerner ended up taking control of the Washington Nationals.
The new management decided to start anew and let the high priced free agents that held the team together for an 81-81 record in an atmosphere that was anything by conducive to winning together. Banking on youth, the new Nationals have continued the tradition of struggling ball clubs at the nation's capitol.

2008 Midseason Update
|
 The Washington Nationals may have a shiny new stadium in Nationals Park, but the inaugural season has turned ugly quick. Nationals tickets caused some buzz at first, but as the season wore on and they fell farther and farther from first place, Washington has lost interest, even with the game of politics out of session during the season.
The team struggles in almost every category at nearly every position. The Nationals are desperately devoid of power but do not have the timely hitting to move runners along, mostly because there are not any runners on. The pitching is less than encouraging and has suffered from a lack of support. John Lannan has a good ERA at 3.29 through 19 games as a starting pitcher, but has a record of 6-9. On most other teams he would be at least a 10-game winner. Tickets to the Nationals games are still something to behold, as the club is trying to build a young team that is unfortunately going through very public growing pains as the MLB schedule wears on.
