Pittsburgh Pirates Tickets
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been roaming the baseball field since 1882, but have not exactly been a standout club over that time. The Pirates are not without their memorable seasons that everyone with Pirates tickets can turn to for comfort when justifying their devotion.
Pittsburgh was a great place to be a baseball fan at the turn of the 20th century with Honus Wagner. The shortstop was key to the three straight pennants from 1901 to 1903. The first two were just before the World Series, but the third had them playing in the inaugural World Series. Pirates tickets saw the club lose to Boston, but Pittsburgh returned in 1909 to win over the Detroit Tigers.
Honus Wagner had to retire eventually, and Pittsburgh followed with mostly unforgettable seasons from 1925 to 1960. The 1960 season saw Roberto Clemente emerged from the unknown to lead the Pirates to their first World Series in over 50 years. Pirates tickets would not see many great team seasons for the rest of the decade, but they did see Clemente quietly dominated the league, establishing himself as one of the best offensive forces every to play the game.
The Pirates real hey day came in the ‘70s. Pittsburgh won two World Series (1971 and 1979). The first came in time to honor the new stadium, Three Rivers Stadium, with a rare all African-American lineup. Clemente died in a tragic plane crash in 1972, and it took Pittsburgh years to overcome his death. Finally, in 1979, the team that made a great run to start off the decade came back to end it with Pirates tickets to a World Series in 1979.
The next couple of decades followed with talented teams that failed to produce. Jim Leyland tried to take a club with All Star outfielders Bobby Bonilla, Barry Bonds, and Andy Van Slyke in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. The team sold Pirates tickets based on talent, but eventually the team broke up and Barry Bonds made his way to a historic and controversial career in San Francisco while the Pittsburgh Pirates struggled to reach .500.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2009 Season Recap
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates finished in the all too familiar last place in the NL Central. The team ended up going 62-99 and finishing 28.5 games behind the first place St. Louis Cardinals. The 2009 MLB season has simply become another year that is par for the course for Pirates fans at PNC Park. The Pirates began the season by trading away one of the baseball team's most popular players, Nate McLouth. There was plenty of fan backlash, but the front office remained consistent saying that the departure of the All Star center fielder would give the team great young prospects and allow stud prospect Andrew McClutchen a chance to play at the Major League level. McCutchen did his best to justify the statement, hitting .286, 12 homeruns, and driving in 54 runners in 108 games. Starting pitcher Ross Ohlendorf was the best in the rotation, going 11-10 with a 3.92 ERA. Zach Duke was not bad either, with a 4.16 (however the lake of run support sported him an 11-16 record). The Pittsburgh Pirates are sure to look as different as ever to the fans. The team just picked up second baseman Akinori Iwamura to fill the void left by the Freddy Sanchez trade. Despite the frustration baseball fans will still come out for the 2010 schedule with Pittsburgh Pirates tickets to see if the team can finally turn it around.
