Oakland Athletics Tickets
The Oakland Athletics, also known as the A's, have been the leaders in the manifest destiny of baseball, first selling tickets in Philadelphia in 1901, then in Kansas City in 1955, and finally in Oakland at McAfee Coliseum as of 1968. As Major League Baseball has tried to capitalize on the popularity of the sport and the western migration of the general population of the United States, the Athletics have been the major vehicle with which to attract fans. A's tickets have been a hit almost since the first few years of the move as the A's went to the playoffs five straight years from 1971 to 1975.
The As fans gladly bought tickets to see stars like hitters Reggie Jackson, Sal Bando, and Bert Campaneries and pitchers Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers, and Vida Blue bring long, untamed hair to the playoffs. The A's returned to the postseason after a tough early part of the 1980s with Mark McGuire, Jose Conseco, and Rickey Henderson. The Bash Brothers sold tickets with their explosive offense and strong pitching with Dave Stewart and Dennis Eckersley. The Athletics ended up winning three World Series in the 1970s and one with the Bash Brothers. As tickets became a treat for everyone in the Oakland area.
Eventually the Athletics came to grips with a down swing in expensive talent and moved into the "Moneyball" years. New general manager Billy Beane defied the traditional scouting reports and baseball management to keep the team salary low and keep the team competitive. As tickets were still a big sell in Oakland as the new baseball logic kept the Athletics in the playoffs with the rotating roster of young stars.

Oakland Athletics 2009 Recap
|
The Oakland A's were the only team in the AL West to fail to give the Los Angeles Angels some form of competition. The team ended up in last pace in the division games with a 75-87 record. The team managed to play alright at home in the Oakland-Almeda County Coliseum, but struggled on the road half of the 2009 MLB schedule. The Athletics were far from a terrible team though. The offense was bad, but not the worst in the league and the pitching was actually pretty good. Most of that good came from the bullpen though. The only two decent starters were A's pitchers' Dallas Braden and Brett Anderson. Trevor Cahill, Vin Mazzaro, Gio Gonzalez, and a few others made it difficult to watch at times. The Matt Holiday experiment ended in his being shipped off to the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle of the season. Choosing the best offensive player is difficult, as some made pretty good contact with the baseball and others whiffed a lot but drive it deep when they finally connected. The Athletics best hits man was right fielder Ryan Sweeney and the team's best power hitter was DH Jack Cust. The team had a speedster on its bench names Rajai Davis. Davis swiped 41 bases and earned the job in center field by the end of the year. The 2010 season will depend on if Billy Beane continues to play money ball or if he tries to actually go out and get a decent free agent or two. The Oakland A's year at the Coliseum could be fun if the young team is able to play together and the pitching pans out, so Athletics tickets are far from a bad call for baseball fans right now.
