New York Mets Tickets
The decade wore on with finishes in last or next to last place until 1969. The season started out with a young roster unable to capitalize on the talent of Tom Seaver, Jerry Grote, and Bud Harrelson. Tickets were in despair by the middle of August. The Mets were doing better, in third place instead of last, but they were still 10 games out with the season coming to a close. A hot streak at the end of the season had them finish in first place and upset victories in the National League Championship Series and the World Series had brought the Mets from "Lovable Losers" to the "Miracle Mets".
The seasons since have followed the same pattern. The Mets and their season tickets holders will suffer through a series of bad seasons before the talented club will break out and make a deep playoff run, sometimes landing them in the World Series. The Mets won last in 1986 with Tom Gordon, Darryl Strawberry, and Howard Johnson and visited the series last in 2000 with a subway series against the Yankees.

 The New York Mets fans hoped that their favorite team could put together a great inaugural season to help the Mets emerge from the shadow of the Yankees, who had to open their new stadium in the same year. The Mets finished flat though, going 70-92 and falling 23 games behind the first place Phillies in the NL East. The Mets ended the 2009 MLB season schedule with disastrous records in August and September, going 21-39. New York hit the ball great, finishing second in batting average in the National League, but they simply could not convert those hits into runs and it is difficult to win baseball games when all your batters stay on first, second, and third. The Mets scored just the 12th most runs in the NL. Meanwhile, the pitching flopped and had a 4.45 ERA (12TH in the NL). Everything became bittersweet. David Wright hit .307 but only hit 10 home runs. The leading slugger on the baseball team was Daniel Murphy with a mere 12 homeruns. Injuries piled up and took out the support staff in the lineup. Luckily, Johan Santana had a great year. The starter had a 3.13 ERA, but only went 13-9 thanks to the lack of run support. Everyone else on the starting staff floundered. The New York Mets are hoping that the second year at Citi Field will be a remarkable improvement over the first. The 2010 season gives the Mets a chance to showcase a healthy team with Wright at third base, Jeff Francoeur in right field, Gary Sheffield in left, Carlos Beltran in center, and Jose Reyes at shortstop.
