Background - Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers featured offensive talents like Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Cecil Cooper, Sal Bando, Groman Thomas, and Ben Oglivie. The offense landed the Brewers their first winning season in 1978 and a second place finish in 1979. The club threatened again in 1980 and 1981, but did not win its first pennant until 1982. The team, then in the American League West, was called Harvey's Wallbangers due to its potent offense. The Wallbangers took the ALCS in five games from the Angels and took the St. Louis Cardinals to game seven, before losing the World Series.
Shortly after the pennant the Brewers began a period of dismal records and false promises of contention. The team was forced to move around in the ‘90s as realignment and the additions of several teams moved the club from the American League East to the American League Central in 1994 and to the National League Central in 1997.
The change in leagues did little to change the fortunes of the Brewers, who continued to scrape the bottom of the NL Central until 2007. The season can be seen as disappointment because the team failed to holds its lead and go to the playoffs, or it can be seen as the first step back to relevance.

2008 Season Preview
|
 The Milwaukee Brewers come into the 2008 season looking to avenge last years melt down. The club returns a couple quality pitchers and the incredible offense that took the team into contention last season.
Ben Sheets is the unquestioned ace of the starting rotation. His late season injury may have cost the club its playoff shot, so fans hope he will stay healthy the entire year. Yovani Gallardo is a good number two starter and has a wide array of pitches to choose from to leave batters baffled. Eric Gagne was the winter's major offseason acquisition. The Brewers expect his presence to solidify the bullpen.
Prince Fielder hit 50 home runs last season, and looks to do it again this season. He is surrounded by Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, and J.J. Hart. The young group will try to recreate the excitement of the early ‘80s, when the Brewers were last relevant.
