The question for this team has to be the young pitching. Josh Johnson had a great season and he is without question the ace of the rotation. Ricky Nolasco, Anibal Sanchez, Sean West, and Chris Volstad fill out the rest of the rotation. West, Nolasco, and Volstad had a difficult 2009 and need to lower the ERA to below 4.50 for this team to unseat the Phillies at the top of the division. Leo Nunez is the definite closer this year too. No more platoon with Matt Lindstrom. Nunez had a high ERA, but he has the strikeout ratio to remain effective.

The first World Series season in 1997 was followed by the inaugural unloading of talent after team management found that the talent needed to win decimated the bottom line. The second World Series title in 2003 was followed by a much less dramatic fall from grace as the team that inhabited Dolphins Stadium was built with homegrown talent as opposed to free agent pickups like the first time. Letting their contracts expire or trading them away, the Marlins greeted fans with tickets for two more winning seasons before descending into the cellar. Time is coming for another surprise run that has every other fan in the league worried by the team that seems to be unstoppable in the playoffs.
