Florida Marlins Tickets
Both those World Series were won from the Wild Card position and each was followed by a fire sale. |
 The Florida Marlins finished second in the National League East with an 87-75 record, trailing the Philadelphia Phillies by six games and the wild card winning Colorado Rockies by five. The Marlins played well at both home and away, going 43-38 at LandShark Stadium and 44-37 in away games. The baseball team truly scare the rest if the majors in 2009 as they threatened to make good on the six-year trend that landed Florida in the World Series via the wild card in 1997 and 2003. Baseball exists in a weird realm in Florida, a realm where the Marlins can outscore opponents by a mere six runs for the year and manage to finish 12 games above .500. Florida was able to do this because they were an overwhelmingly offensive club that could come back from just about any deficit. The team scored the fifth most runs in the NL and posted the 9th best ERA, so those runs seemed to all come at opportune times. The main culprits in the batting order were Hanley Ramirez, Jorge Cantu, Cody Ross, and Dan Uggla. Uggla only hit .243, but he had a decent on base percentage at .354 and led the team with 31 homeruns. Ramirez tore it up though, hitting .342 to lead the National League and showed some power with 24 home runs. He even stole 27 bases. The starting pitcher that lasted the entire season that really dominated is Josh Johnson. Johnson went 15-5 with a 3.23 ERA. The bullpen had a great stable of setup men, but the closer only saved 26 games and lost 6 thanks to a 4.06 ERA. The 2009 MLB season ended up being a tease for Marlins fans, but the 2010 season could be much better if the pitching arrives ahead of schedule.
