Background - Chicago Cubs Convention
Ron Santo, the Cubs former third baseman and current WGN Radio broadcaster, was expected to attend the convention. It will be his first public appearance since undergoing surgery in October to remove tumors on his bladder. The movie will be shown Sunday.
Friday's opening ceremonies will include a video tribute of the Cubs' 2003 season and first-ever National League Central Division title. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry can expect plenty of questions regarding free agent pitcher Greg Maddux on Saturday during a 'Meet Cubs Management' seminar. The Cubs made a two-year offer to Maddux on Tuesday but he has yet to respond.
More than 15,000 fans will attend the three-day event. Sammy Sosa won't be there but Cub players who will participate include Matt Clement, Corey Patterson, Mark Prior, Mike Remlinger, Kerry Wood and Carlos Zambrano. New Cubs LaTroy Hawkins, Derrek Lee and Michael Barrett also will attend.
The 20th annual Cubs Convention will take place Friday, January 21-Sunday, January 23 at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Avenue.
All proceeds from the Cubs Convention benefit Cubs Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Cubs and a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Over the past 19 years, this event has raised nearly $4 million for Cubs Care.

 The Cubs Convention is a popular three-day family event and it is held each winter at the famous Hilton Chicago at 720 S. Michigan Avenue.
