Still fans have enjoyed Rays tickets for the summer fun at Tropicana Field despite the struggle. The team opened with a lineup that was ready to compete. They had Wade Boggs at third, Fred McGriff at first, and Wilson Alverez as the ace. Though many of the players, like Boggs, were past their prime, they were still serviceable baseball players. The first season ended with a 63-99 record.
The Rays tried again to add more veteran talent, bringing in Vinny Castilla, Greg Vaughn, and Jose Conseco, but suffered similar results. Tampa Bay Rays tickets for the next few seasons began to feature young talents like Carl Crawford, Randy Winn, and Rocco Baldelli and ended the same as teams stacked with recognizable veterans.

 The season after losing the World Series, the Tampa Bay Rays struggled into June to play at the same level that took them through the 2008 season and the playoffs before falling to the Philadelphia Phillies. The second half of 2009 baseball season would prove that the Rays may indeed be a one season wonder. They went 36-37 and finished 19 games behind the AL East champion Yankees and 11 games behind the Red Sox in the chase for a second chance with the Wild Card. The Rays had a decent offense and a pretty good pitching staff, but the team could not bring it all together to finish better than 84-78. Still, the 2009 MLB season looks pretty good. Jason Bartlett, Carl Crawford, Ben Zorbist, and Evan Longoria are all back after having great 2009 seasons. Carlos Pena led the team in home runs with 39, but Longoria finished second on the team with 33 and a respectable average at .281. Zorbist had a breakout year at second base, hitting 27 home runs and batting .297. The starting rotation struggled to identify an ace all season long. The best Rays pitcher for the year was Jeff Niemann. Niemann finished 13-6 with an ERA of 3.94. Matt Garza posted a 3.95 ERA, but failed to get the run support, resulting in an 8-12 record. After James Shields and his 4.14 ERA, Tampa Bay hoped that two other starters would emerge. David Price has some promise with 10-7 record and 4.42 ERA, but he was hot and cold throughout the second half of the season. J.P. Howell finished the season strong with a 2.84 ERA and 10.67 K/9. He should enter the 2010 season as the closer instead of the closer by committee that developed over the 2009 season. Tampa Bay Rays fans should be disappointed by the 2009 finish, but should take solace in the possibilities for the 2010 baseball season. Tropicana Field will be a great place to catch a baseball game come the 2010 season, so get your Tampa Bay Rays tickets and enjoy.
