Shortstop Jason Bartlett is having a potential MVP type season when he is healthy, third baseman Evan Longoria is proving that last season was not an aberration, right fielder Ben Zobrist is having a career, Carl Crawford is leading all of baseball in stolen bases, and Carlos Pena is leading the AL in home runs.
The pitching appears alright from the team ERA, but any fan with Tampa Bay Rays tickets to Tropicana Field or that has looked at the individual stats can tell you that the bottom of the rotation is struggling. Andy Sonnanstine and Scott Kazmir are among the worst starter pitchers in all of baseball. The bullpen has been solid, even though the team is using closer by committee.
The club should end up turning things around sometime soon. A team with a run differential of +72 will not be hovering around .500 for very long. Since baseball is a long season that tends to be ruled by the law of averages, a team that scores more than a run more a game (which is a lot in baseball) is sure to make a pennant run soon.
