Seattle Mariners Tickets

The Seattle Mariners 2013 season is not about this summer, but one two or three years down the line. This is a young team that has the misfortune of playing the extremely competitive AL West. Luckily, Seattle Mariners tickets to Safeco Field are not the worst in the division. Those belong to the newest team in the division, the Astros.

The biggest issue for this season is the batting order. Seattle does not have many players who can get on base. Sure Justin Smoak, Kendrys Morales, Kyle Seager, and Michael Morse can hit 20 or so homeruns over the course of the year. However, when no one is on base and the team has no other way to score the situation is quite dire.

Hopefully, Seager can take another big step forward in his development and a couple of other players will post career highs in OBP. Then the club may actually be able to take advantage of a starting rotation featuring Felix Hernandez and have a chance to fight for third place in the division.

Seattle Mariners History

The Seattle Mariners have more than three decades of professional baseball under their belt, and the franchise has not had a bad run. The club has not won a World Series, but the team has won three division titles in the AL West and its fans have been able to watch some incredible players begin their Hall of Fame careers as one of the M’s.

Before the Mariners began playing in the Pacific Northwest, the city of Seattle had a very brief professional experience with the Pilots. The Pilots left after one season, but the city managed to successfully sue the MLB and waited seven years for the new team. Those 1977 Mariners were bad, as were the M’s over the course of the next 13 seasons.

Things finally started getting good and staying good in the middle of the 1990s. Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey, Jr., and Alex Rodriguez were MVPs, Cy Young Award winners, and All Stars. Seattle baseball fans suddenly expected the chance to purchase Mariners tickets for at least a postseason series.

By the end of the 20th century, those stars had left. Somehow, as each star left, the team got better. Eventually the franchise would need a star, and they got one in the form of a 28-year-old rookie from the Nippon Professional Baseball league.

Ichiro Suzuki, the rookie mentioned above, started his MLB career with a Rookie of the Year Award and an AL MVP. He would also enjoy the first of 10-straight all-star game appearances and golden glove awards. Suzuki won the MVP his rookie year because of his incredible stats and because the Seattle Mariners won a MLB-record tying 116 games. The season ended in the ALCS, but the fans had a reason to hope the Mariners would soon play in their first World Series. The team would remain competitive for a couple of seasons afterward, but eventually Ichiro would leave and the club would begin rebuilding around a new star, Felix Hernandez.
