The Yankees were able to continue their success after Ruth retired with greats like Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Lou Gerhig.  The New York Yankees are frustrating all their fans with season tickets to New Yankees Stadium thanks to an early funk (which is par for the course for the Yankees, remember last season's push before they finally fell out of the pennant race). The team is currently in second place behind the Red Sox despite new additions like Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, and A.J. Burnett.
The team is close though, so once that pennant-push starts after the All Star break they should at least be able to get the Wild Card spot, if the Rays continue to find ways to lose. Those with Yankees tickets have seen a club that can score runs in bunches (second to the Rays in fact) thanks in part to a wind blowing straight out from home plate.
The Yankees have the best slugging percentage in the league and have scored the second most runs with a batting lineup that is benefiting from both a pleasant power wind and a revamped roster. Teixeira has proven that he is worth his $20 million a year with his place near the top of the home run list this season and has surprisingly helped with pretty good defense at first base. Teixeira's presence has solidified a lineup with Alex Rodriguez (who is battling to get his timing back after coming back from an injury), Melky Cabrera (who is enjoying best season in his young four year career), Robinson Cano (who is having a break out year…again), and Johnny Damon.
The pitching is an issue. Despite the money spent on adding to players to the start of the rotation, the team still ranks in the bottom tier of AL teams in terms of ERA and quality starts. Sabathia has been a good pitcher, but has not lived up to his $15 million billing. Joba Chamberlain has been good as well. Burnett, Pettitte, and whoever they have had as the fifth starter have been the bane of pitching coach's existence. Yankees tickets to those games will only guarantee a win if the bats are taking full advantage of the power alley (which they are for Pettitte). Even Mariano Rivera in the bullpen has started to look human at the age of 39 with an ERA of 3.25.
The Yankees still remain worth the heavily inflated cost of baseball tickets in New York since they appear ready to start another streak of a 13 seasons of playoff appearances.
