The Milwaukee Brewers began the 2009 MLB season with a competitive spirit. Just the season before they had been in the playoffs and after a slow start the Brew Crew began to seriously challenge for the top spot in the NL Central. By the All Star break the team had burned out and by the end of the season they had an 80-82 record. Milwaukee ended the season in third place, 11 games behind the first place St. Louis Cardinals.

Offensively, the Brewers were fine. Throughout the season at least of the baseball team's sluggers were on fire. In fact first baseman Prince Fielder finished second in MLB in homeruns with 46 and tied for first in RBI with 141. Ryan Braun had very impressive year as well, hitting .320 to go along with his 32 homeruns and 20 stolen bases. Center fielder Mike Cameron added to the team total with 24 homerun. Overall, the Brewers scored the third most runs in the National League.

The pitching, on the other hand, struggled immensely. The team had the second worst ERA in the NL and produced the second fewest quality starts. The only starter that had a decent season was Yovani Gallardi. Gallardi went 13-12 with 17 quality starts and a 3.73 ERA. The entire staff did not struggle. The bullpen actually had quite a few set up men worth raving about and Trevor Hoffman had a comeback year with 37 saves and a 1.83 ERA.

Times should be fun at Miller Park in 2010, as the offense will always gives the Brewers a chance to win. If the starting rotation can find another piece or two then this team could be playing baseball in the fall once again.
