Kansas City Royals Tickets
The Kansas City Royals' 2009 season was decided in the month of May. They started the month at a decent 12-10, were a promising 18-11 after May 7, and were back on the ledge at 23-27 by the end of the month. The team jumped off the ledge and landed in last place in the AL Central, a spot they have owned since 1995. Royals tickets at Kauffman Stadium had a brief period of competitive relevancy in May and the Royals hope that in 2010 they can make a similar run at relevancy, but make it last much longer than two weeks at the beginning of the MLB baseball season. The Royals went into the winter like the organization does every year, trying to find someway to stack this small market team with enough talent to seriously contend. Last year's experiment, Mike Jacobs, was released on waivers after hitting only 19 home runs and batting a measly .228 with an even more abysmal on-base percentage of .297. This season Kansas City raided the Chicago White Sox locker room for talent. They traded Mark Teahan, their perpetual disappointment, for the Chicago's perpetual disappointment, third baseman Josh Fields. They also acquired second baseman Chris Getz in the trade. The raid was completed when they signed outfielder Scott Podsednik to a one year deal. Podsednik rejuvenated his career as last season at the age of 33. The Royals then went after a former White Sox outfielder, Brian Anderson. The Royals signed a number of players who never had any affiliation with the White Sox as well, but mostly to minor league contracts. One of the signings that everyone is watching is starter Noel Arquelles. The Royals are rolling the dice on this Cuban defector with a five-year contract that is actually quite ludicrously cheap ($7 million guaranteed over the span of the contract and a possible $2 million per with incentives). The other is the one-year deal for center fielder Rick Ankiel. Kansas City will have a Cy Young contender in Zach Greinke in 2010 but they have done little to definitely improve the rotation (the same four starters that had ERAs over 4.50 are penciled in so far). The offense simply exchanged one free swinger in Jacobs for another in Ankiel. The one player that may actually make a positive difference is Scott Podsednik. He may be the catalyst this team needs as a lead-off hitter.

Kansas City Royals History
|
The Kansas City Royals early years had a couple of growing pains, but by the late 1970s the Royals were a contender with fans saving for playoff tickets. Just eight seasons after playing their inaugural season, the Royals were in the American League Championship Series with the Yankees. From 1976 to 1978 the Royals season was ended in the ALCS by the Yankees, frustrating Royals fans with tickets waiting for the World Series. It was not until 1980 that the Kansas City Royals were able overcome the Yankees and advance to the World Series. Excited fans held their championship tickets close to their heart as they entered "the" series for the first time. The Phillies defeated the young Royals club, but the experience helped George Brett and the boys prepare for the next trip in 1985. The I-70 Series had Cardinals and Royals fans with tickets driving up and down Interstate 70 for the all-Missouri championship. George Brett and Bret Saberhagen took the Cards to seven games before defeating them, making use of all the World Series tickets. Royals fans celebrated, excitingly picking up season tickets expected years of playoff competition to follow. Those hopes have yet to be realized as the fans with tickets to Kauffman Stadium witnessed the slow decline of a talented Royals small market team that went from great to good to not even competing. Kansas City has struggled to stretch their dollars in an age where big market times take their stars just as they begin to mature to the point of contention, leaving the Royals in a rut that fans with season tickets hope will end soon.
