Chicago White Sox Tickets

The Chicago White Sox are an intriguing baseball team heading into the 2013 MLB season. Experts do not like the clubs chances in a much improved division, but there are aspects of the roster that are too good to ignore. The rotation could be one of the better units in the American League, the bullpen is definitely one of the best, and there are a few hitters who have to be respected. This has to leave those excited about Chicago White Sox tickets with a glimmer of hope.

With regards to the starting rotation, the known elements are Jake Peavy and Gavin Floyd. Peavy is living up to his ace billing, finally. Floyd is one of the best four-men in the MLB. Between them, Chris Sale and John Danks are unknowns. Sale had a stellar rookie season but is being asked to throw 200-plus innings when hitters have had season to scout him. Danks is coming back from surgery. There is nothing too hate about the back end. Jose Quintana and Hector Santiago are going to split time in the fifth spot. Both had very good runs last season and all a back of the rotation pitcher has to do is give a good game every two weeks to be valuable.

The bullpen is going to hold a lead. Addison Reed is a closer who is going to be getting a lot more national press this season, Matt Thornon and Matt Lindstrom are fireballers and Dylan Axelrod is going to handle long relief. The key is giving these guys a lead to handle.

Word is manager Robin Ventura is going to use Adam Dunn in the three-spot, at least at the beginning of the season. Those in the right field bar area at U.S. Cellular Field are going to enjoy watching his 40-plus homeruns hit their way. Still, Dunn swings and misses a lot, like a record-breaking lot.

Alejandro De Aza already has a substandard OBP for a leadoff hitter and no one seriously believes Jeff Keppinger is going to reproduce last season’s stats. That is why he signed for less than $5 million a season. Yet, no one wants to see the man following Dunn, Paul Konerko.

The offense still has Top-10 potential despite these shortcomings. If combined with a top-tier pitching staff, the White Sox have a very real chance of competing in the AL Central.

Chicago White Sox History

If the Chicago White Sox did not have to share the city with the Cubs, they might be one the nation’s favorite baseball teams.  Though the team has only won eight American League pennants and three World Series they are familiar with the term pennant race. It is just that, more often than not, they have fallen short. Heck, replace a White with a Red and the team is a national phenomenon.

In fact, the White Sox ended its 88-year drought a season after the Red Sox ended their eight decade struggle, but the story of collapsing curses had been played out by the time Sox de Chicago swept the Astros.

The team really should have broken this drought in the 1990s. Then Frank Thomas was at his prime and winning MVPs and a pitching staff led by Cy Young Award winner Jack McDowell was tormenting the AL West and the newly created AL Central. These players and the rest of the 1990s crew have been forgotten by everyone else but the loyal fans.

Previous to this roster, players like Nellie Fox, Luis Apparicio, Minnie Minoso, and Dick Allen were the face of a franchise consistently finishing the year with a winning record. Still, those teams regularly fell a few games short of postseason appearances. Alas, these players could not erase the mark left by the Black Sox and what should have been a true dynasty back in the 1910s and 1920s.

Now, in the 21st century, the team has taken to placing former fan favorite and Gold Glove winners as manager. First it was the explosive Ozzie Guillen and now it is Robin Ventura. As these former players usher in good will from the fans the White Sox are busy retooling the farm system, hopefully preparing for another championship run on the South Side.
