In 2000, the new line-up recorded their first demo, '9-song demo', which had Eric Saner (first vocalist) on vocals. The demo did well, even selling in the band's shows. Another demo recording and a 7' picture disc (on Reptilian Records) later, Relapse records signed them up. In 2001, they released their debut EP, Lifesblood. A brilliant collection featuring samples from recordings of the Nuremberg Trials,'Shadows that move' is from One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest etc. The guitars are epic, Brann Dailor drums amazingly, the bass backs up well and the menacing vocals add to the whole album. Vocals sway from screaming intensity to bar-soaked looseness.

Remission, their first full-length album was released in 2002. 'Crusher Destroyer' featured in Tony Hawk's Underground video game is ultra-heavy with steam-rolling riffs and is a math-metal song. Another great tracks include 'Where strides the Behemoth' and 'Mother Puncher'. The deluxe version of Remission features a cover of Thin Lizzy's 'Emerald'.

Mastadon wrote a Rock opera of sorts with their 2004 release, Leviathan. The album was received with huge critical and mass acclaim. Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, Terrorizer and Revolver awarded it Album of the year. Herman Melville's Moby Dick, that deals with whales, ships, water and intangibles like obsession and revenge is best suited to metal. Mastadon creates poetic images with their words. So many styles of metal are incorporated into one here that Leviathan is hard to classify. There are influences of industrial metal, classic metal, stoner metal, and much more Again, 'Iron Tusk' was featured in Tony Hawk's American Wasteland while 'Blood and Thunder' was featured in 'Project Gotham Racing 3'and 'Saints Row' for Xbox 260. 'Iron Tusk', 'Blood and Thunder' and 'Seabeast'.

On February 7, 2006, Mastodan released 'Call of the Mastodan'. A compilation of their early songs. The title song is originally from their '9 song demo' which is sung by Eric saner. Three tracks from 2000's ' 7' self titled vinylare also in this album.

2006 saw the release of their most ambitious album, 'Blood Mountain'. 'Colony of Birchmen' was their first hit on radio and received a Grammy nomination for 'Best Heavy Metal performance'. British magazine, Metal Hammer voted it the best album of 2006. In a countdown by gaming website, IGN, Blood Mountain was at 17th spot in greatest metal albums of all time. The album features guest performances from Joshua Homme ('Queens of the Stone age' vocalist) in 'Colony of Birchmen', Cedric Bizler-Zavala ('The Mars Volta' vocalist)in 'Siberian Divide' and Isaiah 'Ikey' Owens (The Mars Volta' keyboardist) in 'Pendulous Skin'.

Selling tickets to thousands of raving fans was never a problem for Mastodon. The line-up have performed with previous bands before they united their forces to form Mastodon. In 1999, Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliler, ex-members of 'Lethargy' and 'Today is the Day' relocated to Georgia. At a High on Fire show, were Brent Hinds, previously in 'Four Hour Fogger' and 'Fiend without a face' and Troy Sanders ex-member of 'Knuckle', 'Four Hour Fogger' and 'Social Infestation'. Broadly categorized under heavy Metal, unsurprising, as most members were in heavy metal outfits. Their musical style includes jazz-style drumming, heavy guitar riffs, long instrumental interludes which is common to all Progressive Rock bands. It's a no brainer that their music is compared to Metallica and Rush. In the 49th annual Grammy Awrds, they were nominated for 'Best Metal Performance' for the song 'Colony of Birchmen' from their 'Blood Moutain' album.

Mastodon is very consistent and honest to their craft and each album reflects that commitment. They are on the verge of becoming the biggest metal act ever. Buy tickets and catch them perform live which is comparatively better.
