Artist Biography - Master Singers Of Virginia
The Master Singers of Virginia concentrates on the 20 th and 21st music, believes that it is difficult to break new ground and venturing out into the familiar and so this music deserves to be performed. According to them, the modern music is intellectually challenging emotionally powerful and spiritually profound. There are literally a number of choral ensemble in the Washington, D.C., who are performing the great masterworks of famous personalities like Bach, Mozart, Brahms and others, but hardly few who takes interest on modern choral music. Choral music is something that not only belongs to the past, but is also a living art.
Eric Reid Jones is the artistic director of Master Singers of Virginia. Arrangements and compositions have been for a while a part of the Jone's career. Most of these compositions are written for and premiered by the Master Singers of Virginia. A number of Jones work include piano and other instruments, but he primarily writes for cappella choir. Presently, he is the Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virgina. He is also accredited as the founder of the Master Singers of Virginia. Recently, he completed his doctorate at the University of Maryland at College Park. He based his dissertation on the choral music of Veljo Tormis. He did his Master in Music in choral conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and his Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is also an active composer and clinician. His writings have also appeared on a number of occasions in the ACDA Choral journal.
