Mark Eitzel is a musician who is well known as a songwriter and lead singer of the San Francisco band âââ€?¬ËÅ"American Music Club'. His formative years were spent mostly traveling to different areas of the world, including Ohio and the United Kingdom as his father was in the Army. It was while in Columbus, Ohio that he formed his first band, it was a punk band, who called themselves the Cowboys. The Cowboys in 1980 released their singles album. However, by 1981 he formed another band called The Naked Skinners and with them too, he released a singles album the same year. From Columbus, Ohio the band moved over to San Francisco in 1981 only to head for a spilt and by 1982 they had broken up. Thus in 1982 in San Francisco, Eitzel formed the band which was meant for a long run, American Music Club (AMC). The band performed and made albums for twelve years as a group. However, at one point, Mark also began singing with San Francisco's Toiling Midgets, and also recorded solo work while being involved in American Music Club.

In 1993, the American Music Club saw a split for once and for all. From there on, Eitzel moved over to the solo platform, and in 1996 released the solo Album âââ€?¬ËÅ"60 Watt Silver Lining.' The album was a perfect blend of smooth jazz with upbeat pop. His collaboration with R.E.M. guitarist saw the release of âââ€?¬ËÅ"West' in 1997. Mark co-wrote all of the songs with Peter Buck and later the duo also began to tour together. With the band members of Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo, Eitzel released 'Caught In A Trap And I Can't Back Out 'Cause I Love You Too Much, Baby,' the songs of the album had the brashness of rock combined with techno beats. However, the âââ€?¬ËÅ"Invisible Man' released in 2001 had more electronic tone in its sound. The big story on âââ€?¬ËÅ"The Invisible Man,' however, is that Mark chose to do it alone; he did most of the producing, recording and arranging, and played most of the instruments himself, yet the sound is mind boggling. This was followed by two cover projects in 2002, âââ€?¬ËÅ"Music for Courage and Confidence,' which contained material written by other songwriters, and âââ€?¬ËÅ"The Ugly American', an album which included reinterpretations of American Music Club songs performed with a band of Greek traditional musicians.

For the uninitiated, Mark Eitzel is a songwriter and musician who is admired by a diverse array of artists with celebrity status, they range from Joni Mitchell to Tricky, Polly Harvey to Elton John, Elvis Costello to Stephin Merritt, Sheryl Crow to Ryan Adams, to name just a few. An album, âââ€?¬ËÅ"Come On Beautiful', with tracks by Calexico, Lambchop and others was compiled together as a tribute to Eitzel and his music. The Live renditions of Eitzel songs have also been performed by many leading bands which include The Divine Comedy, Everything But The Girl and The Indigo Girls.
