Mana
Background-
Mana is a famous Japanese musician and fashion designer, who is also known world over as the front man and guitarist of the most famous and consequential visual kei band Malice Mizer. Nevertheless, he is greatly considered as the founder and prominent leader of Japan's Gothic Lolita fashion movement. He is right now working at the Moi dix Mois is Mana project.
He was born in Hiroshima, Japan. When he was only 6 years old, his parents introduced him to classical music, since both his parents were trained classical teachers and eventually classical music created an impact in Mana's life. He started making music while he was studying in high school. When his classmates were busy in games and other activities, Mana used to write songs and spend hi time listening to Mötley Crüe and had a mohawk. This greatly influenced Mana and also reflected in his compositions. The songs that he wrote were beautiful blend of classical music, specially baroque music, that features pipe organ and harpsichord, along with heavy metal music, gothic rock, French pop music, industrial music and many such similar elements of music.
Recently when Mana was interviewed he said that he had no formal training in music theory.

Artist Biography - Mana

His first bands was a punk band which was known as Girl'e, that remained active from the year 1989 till 1990. Then he formed the band Matenro which remained active from the year 1990 till 1992. After Matenro disbanded, Mana along with the guitarist Közi formed the band Malice Mizer in the same year. Mana become the band's chief songwriter, lead guitarist, choreographer and overall artistic director. In addition to it, he also formed his own indie music label, known as Midi?Nette. In this label he released most of the band, Malice Mizer's work. After that Malice Mizer took an indefinite break in the year 2001, Mana concentrated on his solo project, Moi dix Mois. He composed all the music and wrote the lyrics, of Moi dix Mois, also produced, directed and even designed the stage costumes of the project members.
In the year 1999, Mana took some time off from music and created his own clothing label, Moi-même-Moitié. The design is a blend of two lines of designs that are Elegant Gothic Lolita and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, that is intended both for males and females. The design was quite approved by many people. He still continues to appear in the scene's top publication, the Gothic Lolita Bible, telling about his own designs and also giving out updates in his innumerable other projects. In the year 2002, Mana signed up with the visual kei/darkwave duo Schwarz Stein to Midi?Nette and also produced for them.It became a great success, but due to some personal problems, Schwarz Stein disbanded in the year 2004. Since then Mana has been looking out for new bands to sign and produce.
In the year 2004, Mana started doing somehing different which was rare among the Japanese musicians. He started reaching out to his fans world over by opening a fan club to his overseas members. In addition he also established an international distribution channels for his music and fashion. He also played his first concerts with Moi dix Mois outside Japan in the year 2005 in Munich, Germany and Paris, France.
