Born on February 14, 1943, in Kinston, North Carolina, Parker had music in his genes. His mother and father were church singers and his brothers are noted musicians. His career got started when he got the chance to play saxophone for James Brown because of his brother Melvin whose talent for drumming was noticed by Brown at a club. After his stint with Brown, Maceo separated to form Maceo & All the Kings Men. The band toured extensively and gained huge popularity. The two albums that the band released during this period have gone on to become timeless classics. The albums continue to be re-released and receive great response. Maceo reunited with Brown in 1973 before drifting away once again in 1975 to join George Clinton's Parliament. After a successful stint with Parliament, he resumed his association with James Brown in 1984 to produce some great funk music that brought him accolades and fame.
