Lucero(band)
Lucero is well known for their style of story telling in their songs. The range of topics was restricted though, and they kept repeatedly touching upon the ones like girls, guitars, love and drinking. Their latest album, released during the Fall of 2006, Rebels, Rouges and Sworn Brothers continues to do the same but certainly reaches out to different themes kicking out the monotonousness that plagued their lyrics thus far. It tells vivid stories and has a fresh whiff of the classic small town American culture. It is observed that this album shows Lucero attempting to distance them from their alt country tag and embrace southern rock panache. The sound quality of the disc is also better and well rounded than the earlier ones. Overall, the album has been credited to put the Lucero on a forward-looking career path.
The crew of Lucero consists of Roy Berry (drums), John C. Stubblefield (bass), Brian Venable (guitar), and Ben Nichols (guitar and vocals), with Rick Steff (piano, organ, accordian).

Artist Biography - Lucero(band)
|
While mere survival in the indie scene is a tough affair, here is a success story of a band, which managed to evolve through it quite impressively. Lucero is a group of artists that personify perseverance. Based out of Memphis, Tennessee, Ben Nichols started this band in the 1990s. Their roots gave them a southern flavor and also the twang by which they came to be known by in course of time. Another specialty of the band is the mobile life that they led, in a van that carried those music campers to different parts of the country. They gave about a 150 shows with tickets sold out, since 2001. Their perseverance impressed not just the audience and fans but also the famed director Aaron Goldman, who later went on to produce a film based on it.
They debuted in 1998 and after releasing a single they signed with the alt country label Madjack to bring out a self-titled debut in 2001. Their talent gained popularity in 2002 when the next album Tennessee was out. It was time to diversify a bit further and they partnered with the label Tiger Style for that purpose. It was in 2003 that they made it big time with the release of their next album That Much Further West. It brought in much more credibility and positive reviews. When all seemed to go well, the label Tiger Style called it quits and closed down. Lucero decided to go it self and started their own label Liberty & Lament. They quickly roped in the famed producer Jim Dickinson and worked on their next album Nobody's Darling that was released in the Spring of 2005. It was the same year in which director Goldman premiered the Lucero based DVD that carried archival footage combined with live footage shot during the recording of the album Nobody's Darling. In September 2006, they re-released the out of print effort The Attic Tapes.
