Artist Biography - Lovedrug
|
Lovedrug was formed in June 2002 in Canton, Ohio by Michael Shepard along with his close pal Adam Ladd. The newly formed band's self-titled EP comprising of five songs was released in July 2002. The EP received a very warm response especially because of Shepard's mellifluous voice and poignant music. This was followed by some alterations in respect of band members. The talented group that was formed as a result and continues till date includes Michael Shepard, an exceptional vocalist, guitarist, and pianist; David Owen, a gifted guitarist and vocalist; Korey Jones, a brilliant bassist; James Childress, an unusually energetic and rhythmic drummer. After the success of the very first EP, the band came out with the 'Rocknroll EP' containing six tracks. This EP of the band also proved to be a roaring success and brought them rave reviews. Because of the impressive compositions they created, the band was hailed by the Cleveland's Scene Magazine as the top band to look forward to in 2004. Chosen to be aired on many independent radio stations, the band's EP topped the rankings on numerous charts. Though approached by a number of heavyweight labels, the band showed preference to sign up with a label that afforded them maximum creative freedom. The band released its debut LP 'Pretend You Are Alive' in late 2004 on the label The Militia Group. The album, containing the soul stirring and movingly spiritual 'Spider,' received stupendous response and brought the band accolades from fans and critics alike. It shot up to No.4 on Billboard's Internet chart and found a place in top 50 in indie albums. The huge popularity of the album's intensely evocative songs like Black Out, Radiology, and Pretend You Are Alive induced the group to embark on heavy touring after the release.
